I am their mom

say this with awe and pride at all that being their mom means. I look at myself as if I’m someone else who I cannot believe is actually me. No, I’m not always this grateful, nor am I consistently positive, calm or even put together, but in their eyes I am everything.

My son asks me questions sometimes with complete confidence that as his mom I will know the answer. From Math and English problems, to how our water softener works, he believes mom is an endless source of information. My kids also have no doubt food will be made for them, clothes will be clean, baths will be given and beds will be made. They understand and accept that their mom will have baking projects and crafts, school lessons, and games all at the ready for them to enjoy. They appreciate and look forward to surprises and presents that can occur often to celebrate anything at all.

However, if you ask them about their mom they’ll tell you. They love her snuggles and she gives the best hugs. Playing Barbies with her is great and she is silly and fun. They’ll say that they love their mom more than anyone in the world. I am their mom. I stop and feel awe and pride when I hear that my whole world loves me more than the whole world.

This Mother’s Day it’s easy to bask in gifts, brunches, alone time and bubble baths. This Mother’s Day I won’t forget I am their mom and they need to celebrate that with me. I’ll be in awe of each homemade card, and I’ll enjoy the extra snuggles. I’ll appreciate how amazing these little people I made are and be proud I am their mom
