This May may not be the same as before....

May is a month that lets you peek into the world of summer. With temperatures teetering on the edge of “light jacket weather “ and green fresh growth carpeting lawns and tree tops everywhere.  There’s a reason Mother’s Day is the exact holiday of choice to celebrate as the outdoors renews itself again!  And that is why May still is one of my absolute favorite months of all!

This May may very well be the most different and semi challenging we’ve had in a while, but just as the spring is bursting with new growth, I’m eager to find a way to enjoy this month unlike any other.

Just the same it’s hard not to say... “well, we usually ... but now.”

So why not say it? We usually go shopping and pick out a craft to make for Mother’s Day together and drop off the final gifts to grandmas the day before Mother’s Day as a sort of caravan of celebration.

So this year we’ll be using a few recycled items to do diy tin can bird feeders to look like flowers and bumble bees using paint and foam. If I need to Michael’s delivers same day!

Then we may even bake up a new treat together and wrap them up for porch drop offs a new kind of celebration caravan. It’s not ideal to not give hugs to grandmas on Mother’s Day, but being able to make things together with my kids is a gift I’ll enjoy in any situation.

And gardening is also topping our May to do’s. I’m already planning our online seed order to start up our garden early May and getting nursery items ordered to pick up too! Getting your hands in the dirt and caring for plants is just another wonderful way to get my kids outside and involved!

We usually (here I go again) visit our local flower farm Bothwell Farms and pick up plants in a few trips. But this year I’ll be ordering on their new web site and grabbing drive up pickup plants instead. My son always loves to buy seeds for our garden, oogling the huge display in the store, he always picks out too many! So this year he’s right next to me on the burpee web site ordering more things than ever!

We are making our way into three months of this “new normal” and although not at all easy to adapt to, I can always find ways to be grateful to be mom.

We may not be doing the same things the same way as last year, but maybe just maybe if we let ourselves be brave....we’ll do them and more even better than before!
